12th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards - Inside
Aurora James, founder of Brother Vellies and winner of the CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund Award of $300,000.

This past Monday the new CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund Award winner was announced and I was proud that it’s a woman. An African-American woman at that! Aurora James is the creator of Brother Vellies shoe line and her awesome and eclectic creativity has not only earned her this award, but even before she entered the contest, she was known in the fashion and hollywood worlds already. Known singer, beauty and fashion innovator and muse, Solange (Knowles) Ferguson, has walked red carpets wearing Brother Vellies as well as actress Zendaya. She and her shoes have also been featured in the top fashion publications in the world.

CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist Announcement
Aurora is tucked ever so quietly behind the fabulous Carolina Herrera.

This prestigious award will allow Aurora to grow her business to higher heights with a $300,000 prize and the best publicity EVER! Her journey through the Fashion Fund grueling tests and obstacles, she made it all the way to finish line as the victor. During 2015 New York Fashion Week, she openly expressed her disdain of lack of model of color for her line that is intended for all races and ethnicities. She – according to ESSENCE.com – reached out to unsigned unknown models of color to reach the diversity level she required for her show. This has also been an ongoing discussion and fight for former model and fashion activist, Bethann Harrison.

With a combination of talent, support (both financial and creative) and chutzpa, Aurora has a long, courageous career ahead of her. We can’t wait!!!
