It’s been almost two months and I’m a proud married woman now. My hubby, Alonzo, and I had the most amazing wedding experience simply because it was stress free, fun, completely customized to our taste and … a SURPRISE!
Yep, I said surprise. Our invitations let our guests know that they were invited to our engagement party. Yes, it is slightly deceptive but hey, some of us like a good surprise every now and again. On September 6, 2015, Alonzo and I were readying ourselves to become one at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia in Atlanta and the are THE BESTEST!!! At 6pm our guests began to arrive and eat and ready themselves for a night of FUN! It made me smile on the inside – and out – that they were none the wiser.
As we greeted guests from about 6:15pm until 6:40pm I must admit that the excitement was welling up. At around6:40pm we sneaked out and changed into our wedding attire. My wedding party (the ladies) and I were dressed and ready when we tipped back toward the main room and the preacher stood in front of the audience at 7pm and announced “I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that there won’t be an engagement party. The good news is that we will have a wedding!” As the room exploded with excitement, my very soon to be husband walked toward the front of the room with my soon-to-be stepson. Then the wedding party. Then my awesome violinist who played the wedding march for me. And, my daddy and I walked down the aisle and had that “are you happy” discussion. He said “if you’re happy, I’m happy.” I was. I am.
When our vows were said, laughs were shared, emotions were collected, we walked down that aisle together as husband and wife and danced our first dance to Michael Jackson’s “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” and history was made. Never again in life, on this earth, will there ever be another Alonzo and Jatika Patterson. Now. Let’s PARTY!!!!!!!!
